It absolutely was the 1st Saturday in quite a while that we made a decision to load in the car with dogs and water bowls and go out to consider inside our beautiful island. We didn’t go far, just about 20 miles from Los Cristianos to a quaint Canarian fishing village often bypassed as people speed over the TF1 either to or from Santa Cruz. It had been a little while since we have been to Poris de Abona which is a shame because it is just the kind of location to go if you want to leave the tourists behind for an hour or two.
The Tenerife Forums has kept its charms especially in the centre where nothing is different in decades and life still continues in a relaxed way. On any vacation to you are likely to see anglers around the quay or folks topping up the tan. This time around was no different – a lone fisherman stood waiting for a catch and in all likelihood wasn’t too concerned if he got a bite or not, the tranquillity was reward enough.
We started off feeling energetic so walked over the coastline making use of the walkways and promenade that this council have given. These are lovely and get a great deal of benches therefore it wasn’t too long before we stopped for the girls to possess a drink so we enjoyed the ocean views.
Through the promenade we came to the little, sheltered curving beach that is popular with locals but never crowded. The magnificent water is shallow therefore we aimed to tempt the dogs into cool teneriife but which was not going to happen.
Through the beach we took from the sights and sounds in the village, that has been deserted and silent! I needed hoped to capture the farmers market in the plaza from the Church, that i had heard includes a good number of local produce but it was late afternoon and so the place was similar to a ghost town.
We continued over the coastal road, which gets to be a rough track and reached the new red and white lighthouse that dominates the skyline and is an icon of Poris. This however will not be the first which was internal 1902.
